Barbara Ann Barker Stuart, a beloved wife, mother, sister and devoted grandmother, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was 75 years old. Barbara was born on July 29, 1948 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Rhonda Jones and Opal Blackburn Barker. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, James Barker.
Barbara lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments. She was a dedicated wife to her husband of nearly 59 years and a loving mother to her children. However, Barbara's true joy came from her role as a grandmother.
In her free time, Barbara could often be found catching up on the latest episodes of her soap operas. But above all else, her heart belonged to her precious grandchildren. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with them, her home was always filled with warmth and laughter whenever her grandchildren were near.
Mrs. Stuart is survived by: her husband, Rev. Thomas Stuart, son, Zackery Stuart and wife Brooklyn, four grandchildren, Waylon, Cole, Mallorie, and Sadie Stuart, four brothers, Robert Lee Barker, Ronnie Earl Barker, Jackson Gwyn Barker, and Willard Dean Barker; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00am at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Tommy Dollar and Rev. Dennis Poe. Burial will follow in the Barker Eller McNeil Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 17th from 6:00-8:00pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Barker Eller McNeil Cemetery Fund; c/o Geneva Gouge, 419 Woodland Trails, Lansing, NC 28643.
Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle spirit, and her unwavering love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
