Sarah Henry Sanders, age 59, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Sarah was born in Jefferson, NC and raised in the Glendale Springs Community. She is survived by her mother Sarah Elizabeth “Lib” Hudler of Jefferson, brother Buddy Mash of Jefferson, and husband Wade Sanders of Fleetwood. She attended Ashe Central High School and loved cheerleading (but apparently skipped math class). Sarah loved to create, she loved “creatives,” she loved creation. She attended Randolph Technical College honing her God-given creative talents. Hired soon after graduation by Lowe’s Companies, Sarah became proficient (and efficient) in all aspects of print media during her 16-year career. She worked for McFarland and Company as a designer, averaging one book cover per day. Admittedly “not an illustrator”, Sarah studied under Stephen Shoemaker to illustrate a children’s book, “Chips & Threads”, written and published by Tuck McClure (who wouldn’t take NO for an answer).
Sarah loved to laugh. Her laugh was infectious. It could (and did) fill a room, an office building, an airport. She loved it when she “tickled” herself. We all did. Sarah was not afraid of work; she worked hard at something all her life, but it had to be done right or it wasn’t worth doing. Oh, how she could cook, especially to please her husband. She loved gardening (playing in the dirt) and growing things; her basement is a jungle.
She fiercely loved her family, her friends, and all living things. The four-legged variety reciprocated fiercely as well, often to the exclusion of everyone else. Sarah was an extraordinary caregiver and jumped at the opportunity to help someone.
Praise a merciful God that she is happy, laughing, and united once again with Carrie, Vernon, Murph and other friends, family and critters that have gone before her. No more suffering. Amen.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 17, at 11:00 am, at Jefferson United Methodist Church. Lunch and a celebration immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) as a tribute to Sarah.
Post Script:
She always said she wanted to be buried in her washing machine. Sorry Sarah, it’s not gonna happen.
