Pansy Miller Jones, age 93, of West Jefferson, passed away Thursday afternoon at her home after a short illness.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Memorial Gardens. After the service, the family will receive friends at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Jones was born in Wilkes County on March 14, 1925, to the late Jonas and Margaret Shepherd Miller. She was a member of North Beaver Baptist Church.
She was an avid vegetable gardener and supplied food for family and friends, by often sharing large and tasty home-cooked meals. Over her lifetime, she hand-pieced and hand-quilted more than 1000 beautiful quilts, providing a legacy of warmth and beauty to others.
She cared nothing for material possessions, except for her lawnmower and weed-eater. She was known for her tireless energy on behalf of her family, who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by one son, Roy Roger Miller, as well as four sisters, Verlie Haskins, Rebecca Blevins, Retha Privette, Edna Miller and two brothers, Buster Miller and Gilbert Miller.
Pansy is survived by one son, Michael Miller of Statesville; three daughters, Alvena Chapman (Harry) of Greenville, SC, Barbara Hodges (Danny) of Todd, and Margie Turnmire (Stacy) of West Jefferson. Also surviving are two sisters, Ruth Madden of Thomasville and Mae Parsons of Jefferson; two brothers, Hurby Miller of Jefferson and Grant Miller of Belmont. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
