Louise Howell Witherspoon, age 88 of Jefferson passed away Tuesday evening at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was born August 17, 1929 to Richard and Carrie Howell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Witherspoon; two brothers, Edison Howell and Everett Howell; two sisters, Wilma Wood and Maggie Hamm. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, and word search puzzles. Louise was known for her gardening skills and she also enjoyed getting together with family, especially for hot dog roasts. She was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, church clerk and sang in the choir. Louise was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Witherspoon is survived by: son, Warren Witherspoon and wife Leona of Jefferson; three daughters, Sandy Witherspoon, Kathy Shepherd and husband Lewis, Lorrie Roten and husband Scott, all of Jefferson; one brother, Ernest Howell of Laurel Springs; three sisters, Myrtle Adams of Taylorsville, Lea Ella South and Leona Jarvis of West Jefferson; also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Lonnie Jones. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday, March 9, 2018 prior to the funeral service at Ashelawn.
