Claude Burl NeavesOctober 6, 1936 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 81)
Claude Burl Neaves, age 81 of Jefferson, NC died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at his home. Mr. Neaves was born October 6, 1936 in Ashe County to the late Roscoe and Winnie Phipps Neaves. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by sisters, Grace Neaves Goodman, Lenna Kay Neaves Hamby, Juanita Neaves Osborne infant twins, Jean and Joan Neaves and Sharon Neaves Thompson and brother, Wayne Neaves.
Claude was married to the love of his life for almost 59 years. He took great pride in his two sons who equally adored him. He was an MBA graduate from Appalachian State University. He began his career as a teacher and spent his later career years as the Vocational Director of Ashe and Alleghany Schools. He never tired of seeing his former students and hearing about their great sucesses. Claude was greatly admired and respected as an educator.
Among his many interests were traveling with his wife, gardening, playing the piano and enjoying endless summer days with his beloved canine companion Heidi. His most favorite pastime was his family. Claude was a devout Christian whose faith never wavered. He was a member of West Jefferson United Methodist Church where he shared his great gift of song.
Mr. Neaves is survived by: his wife, Lena Church Neaves, sons, Randy Neaves (June) of Crumpler and Keith Neaves (Russell Normand) of Boone, brothers, Dale Neaves of Glendale Springs, Lanny Neaves of Franklinville, and Onis Neaves of Glendale Springs, sister, Karen Neaves Campbell of West Jefferson, grandchildren, Lauren Neaves, Sydney Neaves and Mariah Richardson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 7, 2018 at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Dan Gaddy and Rev. Dave Adams. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 PM prior to the service.
